MA Applied Anthropology Summer Institute

Upcoming Institute/Orientation Dates: TBA (likely mid-late August or early September)

The MA program begins with a approximately 7-10 days on the HSU campus. During this time, students build camaraderie, receive introductory methods training, and are introduced to the many facets of the discipline and program. The curriculum serves to facilitate communication among colleagues as well as increase marketable skills. This orientation is the jump start and gateway to the rest of the program.

After the orientation, students undertake the additional program core coursework online. Students who would like to be on campus after the orientaiton are welcomed and will have access to departmental facilities – many of our students choose to remain on campus to take courses, be involved in labs, and form study groups.

Some Highlights of the Institute/Orientation

  • Exploration of areas of research interests.
  • Introduction to archaeological excavation and mapping at the simulated archaeological site.
  • Practice cultural, artifact, and skeletal materials analysis at the ethnographic, archaeological and biological anthropology research laboratories.
  • Field trips to local sites.

Incoming students should see Information for New Students,  and the MA Class Schedule for more information on registration and preparation for the Summer Institute.
